SINGLE OR MULTIPLE
SINGLE-POINT PIERCING/S
The microdermal, also known as a dermal anchor, consists of a horizontal base plate and a perpendicular post with an internal thread, into which various attachments can be screwed. The goal is to create a single-point piercing – a piercing placed at one point in the skin without the typical channel with an entry and exit point.
Dermal anchors can be used in elaborate patterns and combinations or simply as so-called “single points,” allowing for almost unlimited creative possibilities.
TECHNIQUE
To insert a dermal anchor, a small hole is created in the skin at the desired location using a biopsy punch. The jewelry is then placed into the resulting skin pocket through this opening. The version with a perforated base plate is used, allowing the jewelry to connect with the body. It becomes encapsulated, and skin tissue grows through the openings.
For proper healing, it is important to secure the piercing with a wound dressing for at least 10–14 days to prevent the entry of germs/bacteria and to avoid accidental snagging.
Dermal anchors are semi-permanent body jewelry that is firmly anchored in the skin and integrates with the tissue, but can be removed again through a small and relatively low-pain procedure.
The key advantage of this type of body modification compared to surface piercings is the short and usually completely uncomplicated healing process. The scar left after removal is minimal and is barely visible after a few weeks.
PLACEMENT
Dermal anchors can be used on almost any part of the body that is not exposed to excessive friction (such as the leg, waistband area, etc.). Whether individually or arranged in formations, this type of jewelry offers completely new possibilities for enhancing the body aesthetically.
EINSETZEN & ENTFERNEN
First, the skin is disinfected and the placement is marked. To facilitate insertion, the skin is gently massaged beforehand to slightly separate the different skin layers.
Biopsy punches with a diameter of 1.5–2 mm are used, creating an opening through the epidermis down to the subcutis. Using forceps, the base plate is inserted through the opening into a small skin pocket. A sterile dressing is then applied to protect the wound and support the integration into the skin.
Unlike piercings, microdermals cannot be removed by simply unscrewing them by the wearer. To remove a dermal anchor, the jewelry must be fixed with a special clamp. The base plate is then removed with a scalpel through a small, barely painful incision (1–2 mm).
DERMAL ANCHOR & SKIN DIVER
MORE POSSIBILITIES
As an alternative to the dermal anchor, we also offer skin divers. These are smaller and easier to remove (without an incision, only by pulling them out firmly). However, they do not have a screw-on top and consist of a single piece with a pointed end instead of a perforated base plate.
The skin punch is only 1.5 mm wide. The scar after removal is smaller.
For particularly delicate areas such as the face, we generally recommend a skin diver rather than a dermal anchor piercing.
AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS
To support the healing process, you will find here a concise summary of the aftercare instructions that have already been discussed with the piercer.
To ensure that the wound heals as quickly and without complications as possible, we kindly ask you to carry out the aftercare carefully.
WOUND CARE
Always wash or disinfect your hands before aftercare.
Aftercare should be carried out twice daily.
Apply Prontolind to the jewelry and the entry site and allow it to dry.
Then cover with a new dressing for protection.
Wear a dressing for 14 days, especially at night.
NORMAL SKIN REACTION
Slight redness of the skin
Fluid discharge (wound secretion)
Mild pulling and burning sensation
Swelling
